Tainan’s mangoes, which have the best quality in the world, have entered their harvest season. The three-week long 2020 Tainan International Mango Festival will be held between June 26 and July 12, and related events will also be celebrated in mango production districts such as Nanxi, Nanhua, Yujing, Danei, Guantian, and Zuozhen.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che pointed out that Tainan is the largest mango producing city in Taiwan, and Tainan International Mango Festival is the perfect platform for the city government to introduce Tainan’s high-quality mangoes to more people home and abroad. The objective is to increase the fruit’s popularity and help the farmers get better return for their labor.
Huang also mentioned that Tainan’s fresh mangoes are sweet and juicy, and have a delicate texture. The fruit is widely welcomed among domestic and international consumers. In fact, this year’s mango exports actually increased and saw a 10% growth rate. Tainan City Government is actively expanding the city’s mango export market and continued the “order from Taiwan, collect your goods overseas (Japan, China [Shanghai and Fujian])” service this year so that international customers can also enjoy the sweet sensation of Tainan’s mangoes.
According to Agriculture Bureau Director Hsieh Yao-ching, mango export orders accumulated to USD 49.003 million by the end of 2019. This year in May, the Bureau worked together with the Council of Agriculture (Executive Yuan) and TAITRA to host the 2020 Taiwan Tropical Fruit and Processed Fruit Products International Procurement Day - Online Sales Negotiation Session. Twenty international import businesses from eight countries, including Japan, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, Australia, and the Netherlands, purchased Tainan's fresh produce, processed foods and drinks, successfully expanding the international market of Tainan produce and related goods.
