TSMC Selects Tainan Friendship State Arizona as New Fab Location. Huang Wei-che Congratulates Arizona and Looks Forward to More Technology Collaborations

TSMC, the best-performing semiconductor manufacturer in Taiwan, recently announced that they will set up an advanced semiconductor fab in Tainan's friendship state Arizona. Upon hearing the news, Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che wrote to congratulate ‎Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. Huang expressed that he believes TSMC's investment will stimulate new developments in Arizona, and hopes that this project will reinforce their partnership through more technology and technical exchanges.

In his letter, Huang mentioned that since entering Southern Taiwan Science Park, TSMC has spurred on Tainan's economic development and increased job opportunities, and Tainan is now a major zone for the advanced processes of 5nm and 3nm wafers. Thus with TSMC’s investment project, Huang is positive Arizona can also look to a bright future.

Huang pointed out that Tainan and Arizona already have constant interactions in baseball, tourism, and culture. Now with the building and operations of TSMC’s new fab, the technology industry will become an additional collaboration area.

Before taking on the role as Governor of Arizona, Ducey worked as the CEO of an ice cream brand and had visited Taiwan many times on business. Therefore at the end of the letter, Huang Wei-che invited Ducey to visit Tainan and promised to treat him to Tainan's most famous mango ice. The letter closed with Huang hoping the COVID-19 pandemic will recede soon and both sides can resume their normal interactions.
