Attention all Tainan commuters with a TPASS! We have a new purchase channel for the monthly plan thanks to the Tainan City Government Bureau of Transportation and the iPASS company. Commuters with an NFC-supported mobile phone can now download the iPASS MONEY app and purchase the monthly plan by directly tapping the physical TPASS card on the phone. Users can also activate the card or cancel tickets via the app, saving handling fees and a trip to the physical locations.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che expressed that the city government has been actively promoting public transportation as well as the Executive Yuan’s monthly commuter plans. Over 30,000 299, 399, and 999 monthly plans have been sold in Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung; thus, he requested the city’s Bureau of Transportation to make plan/ticket purchasing more convenient.
Bureau of Transportation Chief Executive Wang Ming-de explained that in this collaboration with the iPASS Company, they developed the iPASS MONEY app with full online services to optimize the process of purchasing monthly plans for commuters using physical cards. Travelers with a Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung physical TPASS card can download the iPASS MONEY app, top up their TPASS physical card, and then purchase a monthly pass plan via their NFC-supported iOS or Android phones. Users can also activate their card and cancel/refund tickets via the app, saving them a lot of time. Moreover, after registering on the iPASS MONEY app and linking it with the iPASS auto-top-up function, users can simply buy their plans monthly on the app and use it directly, while those who paid via online payment still have to activate the plan at the machines.
The Bureau of Transportation also confirmed that the four existing sales channels will remain in service. The first is purchasing the plan on the MeNGo platform website or app, and the second is at the ibon machines at the 7-11 convenience stores in Tainan City. The third is at the ticket sales windows of each Taiwan Railway station (except for Balin Station which only sells the 399 and 999 plans). Travelers must activate the card at the ibon machine on 7-11 (handling fees apply) after purchasing the monthly plan. The fourth is to purchase and activate the card (no handling fees) at the TPASSxMeNGo self-service machines set up at the Transfer Stations at Tainan, Xinying, Madou, and Guanmiao.
