On June 15, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che escorted Premier Cho Jung-tai to Shalun Green Energy Science City, where the Premier announced that the AI Industrial Park will be located in Shalun, Tainan. Prior to this, the Premier had reiterated Tainan’s significance as an important hub for the development of smart cities in southern Taiwan. According to Cho, the central government intends to invest NTD 10 billion in the region through National Development Funds and public infrastructure construction budgets and the central and local governments will work together to support the AI industry to realize President Lai Ching-te’s vision of building an AI Island. The Premier also hopes to stimulate the growth of Tainan’s industrial chain through resource convergence and integration.
Mayor Huang Wei-che thanked the central government for choosing Tainan as the location for the AI Industrial Park, which will expand out from the Shalun Green Energy Science City, in Tainan. The Mayor also brought up the recent announcement made by US company Amazon Web Services (AWS) that it is willing to invest billions of dollars in Taiwan - as long as the facilities run completely on renewable energy. Huang stressed that Tainan has the most developed green energy technology as well as successful cases in Taiwan, and that green energy is an unavoidable worldwide trend. The city is ready in terms of land, talents, water, and energy; and Shalun Park, a significant center for the research and development of green energy technologies, offers the ideal location and environment for the growth of high-tech sectors such as AI.
Premier Cho Jung-tai remarked that the Shalun Industrial Park is a very important science and technology park in Taiwan and its success demonstrates Taiwan’s advancements in technology which attracts more international high-tech giants to Tainan. With President Lai Ching-de taking office, the Smart Science City will usher in a new era as the central-local government partnership is committed to actualizing an “active and innovative (AI) Cabinet” and advancing digital and net-zero transformations to establish Tainan as a potent capital for economic growth.
