The Masterpieces From The National Gallery, London Exhibition Officially Opens, Tainan Mayor Invites All To Come Appreciate The Great Art Pieces

On May 2nd, the much-anticipated Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London exhibition officially opened. Fifty-two priceless masterpieces on loan from the National Gallery of London will be on display in this jointly organized exhibition between the Chimei Museum and the Gallery. The exhibited artworks are by 50 masters spanning from the Renaissance to the late Impressionism period. 

 

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che expressed that Tainan is honored to welcome the exquisite collection to Chimei Museum during the year of Tainan 400 and this is an excellent opportunity for the public to appreciate the interactions between Western art history and Tainan’s cultural history. As the jointly organized exhibition echoes the core spirit of Tainan 400, “treasure the traditions, create the present, and look forward to the future”, those who come to Tainan can also revisit Tainan’s past and reflect on the city’s upcoming 400 years.

 

The Mayor also thanked Chimei Museum for its long-standing partnership and support as well as for bringing high-quality art and style to Tainan. After recapping the original philosophy of Mr. Shi Wen-long, the founder of the Chi Mei Group, Huang thanked Shi for creating a museum that belongs to the public. His efforts not only made Tainan the capital of art and culture in Taiwan but also presented Tainan’s art and culture to the world.

 

Emphasizing that this year is unquestionably the year of artistic exchanges between Tainan and the rest of the world, Mayor Huang sincerely invited everyone to Tainan to experience the city’s rich and diverse culture as well as the charms of Tainan 400. Huang emphasized that the Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London exhibition would not be possible if it weren’t for the efforts of Chimei Museum and The National Gallery, London. He also thanked the Ministry of Culture as well as the British Office Taipei for their support.

 

The Chimei Museum explained that the 50 masterpieces will be exhibited in four sections. The Renaissance section showcases the works of artists such as Raphael, one of the Three Great Masters of the Italian Renaissance, Sandro Botticelli, Giovanni Bellini, and many others. The Baroque section features paintings by the Dutch master of light Rembrandt and other artists, while the remaining two sections focus on classic works of Impressionism artists across Europe in the 18th century, including Canaletto, Goya, Turner, Cézanne, Renoir, and Gauguin.

 

Tickets for the Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London exhibition (May 2 to Sep. 1) are available for pre-order. To accommodate guests who cannot come during weekdays or the daytime, the exhibition will be open till 8:00 pm during weekends (Friday to Sunday).
