Tainan 400 Event Series Officially Kicks Off, Mayor: Tainan Is Moving Toward A Glorious New Era

The Tainan City Government sounded the bells in prayer on December 7 and announced the official launch of the Tainan 400 event series. A promotional video for the occasion was also released at the opening event. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che stressed that Tainan 400 is not just an exciting event but more importantly, it is an opportunity for us to reflect on the hard and software development of the city and the sort of Tainan we want to leave for future generations. He invited everyone to come witness Tainan’s past and future.

The Mayor reiterated that the city government has extended an invitation to the public to submit activity suggestions, in addition to the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival, International Orchid Show, Creative Expo Taiwan, and other exciting events. Moreover, the government worked with the academia to discuss Tainan’s historical role from 1624 to the present times. Huang asks everyone to carry on Tainan’s culture and values and jointly shape the coming four centuries of the city.

Deputy Minister of Culture Sue Wang pointed out that Tainan started to interact with the world 400 years ago. Hopefully four centuries from today, Tainan can continue to share Taiwan’s unique cultural subjectivity, and cultural pride and content with the rest of the world. Tainan was selected by the Ministry of Culture as the location for many significant cultural events in the following year to let the city connect with and represent Taiwan in the international community.

Visitors from home and abroad are invited to fully experience Tainan’s charm through various activities and exhibitions, such as the Agricultural and Fishing Art Festival which will have displays all over the city, the International Orchid Show, and the Tainan City Exhibition.
