Tainan City Completes 300 Public Bicycle 2.0 Rental Stations Ahead Of First Phase Schedule

Launched in February 2023, YouBike 2.0, Tainan City’s public bicycle rental system, has become widely popular among locals and visitors. So far, over 1.4 million riders have used the service. The rental system has 300 completed docking stations for its first phase and the Bureau of Transportation will continue to increase stations and bicycle numbers in the administrative districts. Mayor Huang Wei-che invited the public to explore Tainan on YouBikes and mentioned that riders who use the Tainan City monthly pass can enjoy the first 30 minutes of rental free.

At present, there are 300 stations in the 28 administrative districts throughout the city. In addition to the original 6 districts in the former Tainan City area and adjacent areas as well as the Tainan Science Park zone and Xinying District, new stations have been added in Houbi, Baihe, Dongshan, Yanshui, Liuying, Siaying, Lioujia, Madou, and Guantian Districts in the northern region of Zengwun River, Shanshang and Yujing Districts along the mountain line and Qigu and Beimen Districts along the coastal line. Tainan City now has 2,950 YouBike 2.0 vehicles and the popular YouBike 2.0E (electric bikes) system has 500 bikes in service.

The docking stations in Tainan are mainly located at transportation hubs (Taiwan Railways stations, transfer stations, and parking lots), around schools, in communities, and at tourist destinations. Tainan’s Bureau of Transportation and YouBike team continue to evaluate potential station sites and will keep on adding stations in each district to realize the goal of setting up 500 stations.
