Tainan City and the City of Gold Coast officially became sister cities in October 1982. To celebrate the 40 years of cherished relationship, Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che and City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate each recorded videos to convey their best wishes to the other city. Mayor Huang’s video was featured on Mayor Tate’s Facebook page.
Mayor Huang Wei-che remarked that the beautiful City of Gold Coast is a famous tourist destination and has maintained a close relationship with Tainan for many years. He thanked Mayor Tate for his support of Tainan and the international interactions between the two sister cities and invited the citizens of Gold Coast to visit Tainan often.
City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has been in office since 2012 for two consecutive terms and has visited Tainan twice so far. In 2012, which marked the 30th anniversary of the two sister cities’ relationship, Tate led a delegation to Tainan to sign an additional MOU; and in 2018, he came to take part in the green energy conference.
In his video, Mayor Tate mentioned that the ancient capital Tainan is well-known for its culture and traditions. During his visit in 2018, he was impressed by the strong friendship as well as the long-lasting and sincere interactions between the two cities. He hopes that citizens of the respective cities can visit each other more often and sent his best wishes to Tainan.
Located in “Sunshine State” Queensland, the City of Gold Coast has a pleasant climate and is a good place to reside and visit. The city is famous for its tourism, film and television, and shipbuilding industries. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of this sister-city relationship, Tainan City Government hosted a special exhibition of the City of Gold Coast at Tainan Yancheng Library. The display, which will be held from Nov. 2 to 30, 2022, showcases the interactions between the two cities as well as relevant publications, and cultural collections and features.
