Tainan Kicks Off Reading Belgium@Tainan, Belgian Office Deputy Director Takes Part In Event To Show Support

Tainan City Government organized the Reading Belgium@Tainan series event which will take place at Tainan Public Library (New Main Library) this March. This is the first time the local government participated in Francophonie à Taïwan. Mr. Geoffrey Eekhout, Deputy Director of the Belgian Office in Taipei, traveled to Tainan on Mar. 5 to donate fifteen French picture books and comics to the library on behalf of Wallonie-Brussels International. Eekhout was also the main speaker at the Belgian Rhapsody screening event held on the same day. During the event, he introduced the diverse culture, people, and languages of Belgium to the local audience.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che remarked that Belgium is internationally known for the excellent picture books and comics that the country publishes every year. He especially thanked the Belgian Office in Taipei and Wallonie-Brussels International for their strong support and for introducing the rich culture of Belgium to the Taiwanese public. The donated books will be added to the library’s collection and residents that are interested in the French language are welcome to borrow the books.

The Reading Belgium@Tainan event will be held till Mar. 31. French picture books and comics are displayed on the first floor of the New Main Library for this occasion, and there are also film screenings.
