Composed of 30 representatives to Taiwan from 22 countries, the Diplomatic Corps and Commercial Personnel arrived in Tainan on Dec. 13. They were accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tien Chung-kwang. This is the delegation’s second visit to Tainan in two years. Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che personally welcomed the group with Deputy Mayor Tai Chien.

Huang expressed that he is happy to welcome old friends to Tainan again at the end of the year and hope that the representatives will discover the progress of the city. The Mayor also gifted the representatives with Tainan Rice gift sets. The gift set had just won first prize at the 2021 Taiwan Rice Gift Set Selection hosted by the Agriculture and Food Agency. Huang explained that Tainan yields high-quality produce year-round and the city is very proud of its rice. With this gift, he wished the delegation a fruitful visit, just like the harvests in Tainan.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tien Chung-kwang mentioned that he was born in Tainan and completed his mandatory education here. He added that the residents in Tainan are very proud of their culture. Tien also expressed that this visit not only lets the representatives know more about the development status of Tainan and Taiwan but also lets him, someone who has been deployed to other countries for a long time, feel the progress of his homeland.

Saint Lucia Ambassador H.E. Edwin Laurent delivered remarks on behalf of the diplomatic delegation. He thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for arranging this visit to Tainan and expressed that he is delighted to have this opportunity to conduct in-depth interactions with the local government and businesses. Ambassador Laurent further expressed that he looks forward to more events like this in the future to facilitate more interactions between diplomatic representatives and local governments.

Every year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organizes diplomatic delegation visits to let representatives to Taiwan know more about Taiwan’s policies and industry developments and facilitate international business opportunities and collaborations. The group visited Tainan’s smart electric vehicle industry last year and this year they observed Tainan’s green energy and aerospace industries, as well as industries related to The 5+2 Industrial Transformation Plan.

This year’s diplomatic representative delegation consists of 30 representatives from 22 countries, including Saint Lucia, Marshall Islands, Guatemala, Nauru, Honduras, Haiti, Paraguay, Mexico, Luxembourg, Czechoslovakia, Nigeria, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, India, Finland, Somaliland, Saudi Arabia, Australia, the Philippines, Russia, and Poland.
