During the Municipal Administrative Meeting on July 12, Tainan City Government Economic Development Bureau presented the overall development progress of Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City. Tainan City was assigned by the Executive Yuan as the location for Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City and now this green energy cluster is gradually taking shape.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che remarked that the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City was planned during Vice President William Lai’s term as Tainan City Mayor, and is also the first smart science city to be approved after President Tsai Ing-wen took office in 2016. Thus the following execution should be done attentively as well. Vendors selected to enter the Science City and the hardware within the park should be of good quality and management should be transparent.
Economic Development Bureau stated that so far the Taiwan CAR Lab, Green Energy Technology Demonstration Site, and Smart Green Energy Circular residential Housing have all been completed. The first phase of the Data Security and Smart Technology R&D Zone is open and the Zone is expected to finish the second phase construction by Q2 in 2023. In addition, projects such as the ICC Tainan, Mitsui Outlet Park, and Shalun Bilingual Junior High School are all under construction and will be open to the public as soon as 2022.
For the next phase of Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City, it will build on existing foundations and integrate the setup of the platform and Health Park via operations, and invite the Academia Sinica, ITRI, and National Applied Research Laboratories to bring their R&D capabilities on board. The Science City aims to become an important smart city demo zone and Asia-Pacific Green Energy Development Center.
