Recently, the number of cluster outbreaks among migrant workers at major technology factories in Taiwan has increased rapidly. To prevent cluster outbreaks in the Southern Taiwan Science Park and its migrant worker dormitories, Tainan City Government set up a large screening station, which officially came into service on June 9, in the science park. Mayor Huang Wei-che was also there to inspect the station.
Mayor Huang remarked that adding a screening station is a way to increase epidemic prevention capability at the Science Park and migrant worker dormitories as it can stop the chain of infection early on. Huang added that the screening station can process 1,500 rapid tests per day. He encouraged migrant workers and domestic employees to undergo screening to know whether they are infected or not and carry out following protection/prevention actions accordingly. The Mayor also expressed that hopefully this can help Southern Taiwan Science Park maintain its production capacity and avoid any impact caused by the pandemic.
Southern Taiwan Science Park is a place where many technology factories are located, and employees of the same manufacturer may commute between factories situated at different science parks. To avoid major outbreaks in these important technology hubs, Tainan City Government actively contacted the Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau and organized equipment and medical personnel for the rapid screening station.
If the rapid test results come back as positive, onsite hospital medical staff will immediately follow up with a PCR test, and the individual will be transported to a separate site (one person per room) to wait for their PCR test results. This person is not allowed to leave the waiting site and must comply with related epidemic prevention rules to avoid spreading the disease into the community.
