Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che handed out good luck goody bags at Tainan HSR station on Feb. 16 morning to wish the residents a smooth first day at work after the Lunar New Year holidays. When he was there, the Mayor ran into AIT Director Brent Christensen who was heading to Chimei Museum with his wife. The two gentlemen wished each other a happy and successful new year.
Huang Wei-che explained that Director Christensen came to Tainan in 1978 as a missionary, and now he welcomes the Christensen couple back to this city which he believes Christensen loves and is quite familiar with. The Mayor also wished them a good holiday in the city and hoped that they would visit Tainan often in the future.
Huang also mentioned that there are some pictures the residents took of Director Christensen riding a T-bike in Tainan’s streets. Director Christensen responded happily that Tainan is a beautiful traveler-friendly city, and Mrs. Christensen added that Tainan’s shared T-bike system is very convenient. The Director then shared that they had already toured the city and canal, and were heading to Chimei Museum later that day.
Director Christensen assumed office on August 11, 2018. This is his fourth long-term stay in Taiwan. Prior to this post, he came to Taiwan once as a missionary and twice as an official at AIT. Director Christensen is a seasoned diplomat with over 30 years of experience under his belt.
