Mayor Huang Urges Citizens to Wear Masks at All Times for 14 Days; Government and Companies Align Efforts in Epidemic Prevention and Control

The potential risk of COVID-19 community infection has risen as a result of the Dunmu Fleet confirmed cases who had carried out activities at various locations in Tainan. During the “8th Meeting of the COVID-19 Level 1 Command Center” held on April 21, Mayor Huang Wei-che instructed all citizens in Tainan to wear face masks at all times and in all occasions for the next 14 days. Wearing masks is crucial in tackling the few asymptomatic cases that are harder to track down.

Mayor Huang also pointed out two main directions that deserve special caution. First, regarding the Dunmu Fleet navy members, the government should thoroughly obtain all the details about the confirmed cases, including their travel history and contact tracing information. Secondly, the government should and will continue to devote efforts into the existing epidemic prevention and control works, especially focusing on wet markets and night markets in Tainan.

Mayor Huang visited Tainan’s Shin Kong Mistukoshi Department Store and T.S. Dream Mall to inspect the disinfection results as well as the disease prevention and control efforts carried out by the businesses. Some of the Dunmu Fleet sailors visited a number of stores in Tainan, so Mayor Huang wants to ensure that all these shopping areas are fully sanitized to secure the health of all citizens and their safety when they shop or work at these places. Mayor Huang also recognizes the efforts of the department stores in joining force with the government, which allow the public to continue enjoying a normal life. Finally, Mayor Huang reminds everyone to practice self-protection, wear face masks in public places, maintain social distance, and frequently wash hands with soap. By adhering to these guidelines, citizens can still engage in regular economic activities.
