More than 60 representatives from membership economies and experts from 14 countries around the world gathered in Tainan for the 44th AFACT Mid-term Meeting and the Asia-Pacific International Forum on Dual Transformation and New International Cooperation in the Digital Economy. The event was organized by the Asia-Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (AFACT), which has a history of more than 30 years, and attracted former chairpersons of relevant United Nations organizations and several international project directors to Taiwan to discuss major global issues such as digital trade, e-commerce, and sustainable transformation.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che pointed out that Tainan is not only the oldest city in Taiwan but also a rapidly emerging technology hub. From the semiconductor clusters in the Southern Taiwan Science Park to the Shalun Green Energy Science City, Tainan is gradually building a global technology industry chain. AFACT’s choice to hold such an important international forum in Tainan not only reflects global recognition of Tainan’s city governance and industrial strength but also highlights Tainan’s growing role in the global digital economy and sustainable development trends.
The Asia-Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (AFACT) is one of the few global NGOs with UN General Consultative Status. AFACT has a strong presence in global society and plays a key role in global digital trade and international standard-setting. It not only has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) but also can recommend experts to participate in UN-related forums and standard-setting work.
