Tainan Mayor Makes Sister City Cavite City His First Stop on Two-day Philippines Trip

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che recently completed a two-day visit to the Philippines with the goal of maximizing the impact of city diplomacy. Upon arriving early on April 23, Huang headed to Tainan’s first sister city in the Philippines, Cavite City, demonstrating the strong bond between the two cities.

Mayor Huang said Tainan deeply treasures its friendship with Cavite City, which has lasted for nearly half a century. He said he made Cavite City his first stop to express his gratitude to Mayor Chua for visiting Tainan earlier this March, and he looks forward to strengthening substantive cooperation in property, tourism, and education through official visits and long-term, stable interactions.

Mayor Denver Chua and Deputy Mayor Benzen Raleigh Rusit of Cavite City welcomed the guests along with the city’s municipal team and city council members, giving Mayor Huang the full Cavite hospitality experience as soon as he got out of his vehicle.

Mayor Chua recalled that he was impressed and inspired by Tainan’s city governance efforts during his March visit, and looks forward to further interactions with Tainan, especially in the area of youth education. Lastly, Mayor Chua emphasized that Cavite City welcomes Tainan citizens with open arms.

According to Tainan City Government’s Department of Information and International Relations, the Mayor’s trip demonstrates an efficient way to conduct city diplomacy. As interactions between Taiwan and the Philippines continue to increase, Tainan City will keep on expanding international connections, improving its global visibility, and encouraging more bilateral exchanges.

Known as the “Historic City by the Bay”, Cavite City became a sister city of Tainan in 1980. This March, Mayor Denver Chua visited Tainan with a 17-member delegation, including the Deputy Mayor and city council members, and they visited historical sites and local businesses to deepen their understanding of Tainan.
