Tainan City Announces Christmas and New Year's Eve Festivities Huang Wei-che Welcomes All to Join the Fun in Tainan

Tainan is ready for 2021!  On Nov. 25, Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che joyfully announced the programme and featured artists for the city's Christmas and New Year's Eve festivities, and also seized the opportunity to market Tainan's excellent in-season produce and delicacies. Artists Janice Yan, Boon Hui Lu, and Shou received green ponkans, specialty coffee beans, and minced pork rice as gifts.  The mayor invited everyone to Tainan for a good time, good food, and great performances.

Huang Wei-che expressed that as the year nears its end, the public are looking forward to the holiday festivities. Not the one to disappoint, this year Tainan City Government has decided to expand the scope of events by spreading out the performances so that residents throughout the city can all enjoy wonderful entertainment. This year's programme includes exciting concerts by pop artists, a collaboration between National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) and Dutch singer Martin Hurkens, and family events and activities. Finally, Huang invited everyone to Tainan at the end of the year to enjoy the amazing performances.

Organizing a large event during the COVID-19 pandemic is a major challenge. Nevertheless, Tainan City Government still strived to present a diverse and delightful programme. The city government especially thanked the private sector for their involvement and support. In addition, popular artists and stars were invited to take part in public welfare events in order to raise more awareness for social welfare groups and help them obtain more resources.

According to the Department of Information and International Relations, the 2021 Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities will follow last year’s model and present seven events which will be held in different districts in the city. The wide array of presentations can satisfy audiences of different age groups. They also reminded the public to follow epidemic prevention guidelines when attending performances: wear a mask and maintain proper social distancing to protect yourself and others.

The 2021 Christmas and New Year's Eve festivities offer exciting performances every week, so come enjoy the fun! The event kicks off on Dec. 5 with a picnic concert at Tsung-Yeh Arts and Cultural Center where Little Frog Theatre will perform a puppet show. Audiences can enjoy the show while they picnic on the lawn. On Dec. 13, Guyin Galaxy Children's Theater takes over Soulangh Cultural Park. This theater group is the only one in Taiwan which has been authorized by Japan's Theater Company HIKOSEN to perform their productions which feature popular children's drama with educational stories.

The west plaza of Tainan City Government Yonghua Civic Center will host a jazz concert (Dec. 18), romantic love ballad concert (Dec. 19), and rock & roll/hip hop night (Dec. 26). If you enjoy performances featuring NSO and Martin Hurkens, you’re in luck! Other artists and singers who will grace the stage include Joanna Wang, Hebe, Eric Chou, Janice Yan, and Evan Yo.

The Popular Hits concert held at Xinying Stadium on Dec. 27 features electrifying music and marvelous fireworks. Citizens in the area north of Tseng-wen River are definitely in for a treat! On New Year's Eve, join us back at the west plaza of Yonghua Civic Center to conclude this year with many popular hits that will be performed at the New Year's Eve concert.
