Dutch vocalist Martin Hurkens and British classical singer Mary-Jess had both performed in Tainan before. When they learned that Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che was unwell, they sent over flowers and get-well-soon wishes. The Mayor expressed that he is extremely touched by this small gesture from his international friends.
The Mayor shared the warm wishes on his Facebook page and replied that he has returned to his busy work schedule. He also wrote back to the two artists to thank them for their concern and support.
On his Facebook page, Huang mentioned that he misses Hurkens’ hit “You Raise Me Up” and Mary-Jess’ classical voice and shared photos from last year’s concert.
International vocalists Martin Hurkens and Mary-Jess were invited to appear at the “2021 Tainan Christmas & New Year’s Eve Events”, which attracted quite a crowd. During their visit, the artists also toured around Tainan and enjoyed the hot springs at Guanzihling, ate barrel-roasted chicken, and took part in the See Xigang Cultural Festival to experience the local culture.
