Mayor Huang Wei-che expresses gratitude to AIT Director William Brent Christensen for his contributions to Taiwan-US relations

As William Brent Christensen’s terms of the Director of the Taipei Office of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) will soon come to an end, Mayor Huang Wei-che presents him with dried fruits and cultural creative products originated from Tainan, in appreciation of his remarkable contributions to enhancing Taiwan-US relations.

Mayor Huang expresses that Taiwan-US ties have flourished to reflect the spirit of "real friends, real progress”, and Director Christensen has played a critical role in this achievement because of his vision of continuously deepening our partnership. Over the years, Taiwan and US enjoy close cooperation on a wide range of issues, and in particular, the two countries have worked together to overcome challenges of COVID-19 pandemic. The mayor also thanks Director Christensen and AIT members for their efforts in facilitating the donation of 2.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine by the U.S. government to Taiwan, which is a great help when we are in the middle of our fight against the pandemic.

During his term of appointment, Director Christensen had visited Tainan for many times. He not only hosted the Independence Day celebrations at Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium last year, but also enjoyed a private tour in Tainan with his wife during this year’s lunar new year holidays. Mayor Huang invites Director Christensen to return to Tainan often so that he can refresh his memory of warm vibes of this city and enjoy delicacies and his beloved mango shaved ice.
